Trans-Am Turns Back the Clock at Lakeside
The Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am Series heads to Lakeside Park for round four of the 2018 series, bringing their brand of old-school muscle car racing to the hugely-popular Lakeside Classic on August 11-12.
The Trans-Ams have become a crowd-favourite at the Lakeside Classic over the years years, with the spectacular on-track action matched off the track, with teams and drivers happy to show off their classic American muscle to punters with open access to the pit paddock.
Sunshine Coast racer Anthony Tenkate scored his maiden round win last time out at the Two Days of Thunder at Queensland Raceway in June, scoring one race win and two podium finishes to secure overall honours ahead of Alwyn Bishop and two-time champion John English.
Tenkate and English will duke it out in the Trophy class this weekend, while Rob Hackwood returns in the #21 Wellpro Racing Mustang, filling in for Ron Prefontaine.
The Sportsman Series will be hotly contested this weekend, with Alwyn Bishop out to defend his series lead against Harry Charalambous and the returning Martin O’Kane. The Sportsman Series is another sub-class within Australian Trans-Am classified for ‘drivers of over 5-Litre vehicles doing it as much for fun as they are success.’
The 5 Litre Classics will be contested by Len Balme, Mike Collins and Tricia Chant. Balme returns to the grid after engine troubles put him out of the running at the Two Days of Thunder, but still maintains a one-point lead over Collins in the series standings. Chant will be out to continue her successful run of form that saw her take out the 5 Litre honours last time out at Queensland Raceway. The Five Litre Classics is a popular sub-class within Australian Trans-Am for cars not exceeding a Five-Litre engine capacity.
The three sub-classes within the Australian Trans-Am Series is classified by the outer tips of the Performance Wheels windscreen banner: Red for Trophy, Yellow for Sportsman and Blue for 5-Litre.
The Trans-Ams are set for four exciting sprint races at the historic Lakeside Park across the weekend at the popular Lakeside Classic.
