Trans-Am Set for Two Days of Thunder
The Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am Series heads to Queensland Raceway for round three of the 2018 series, bringing their brand of old-school muscle car racing to the annual Two Days of Thunder on June 23/24.
The Trans-Ams have become a crowd-favourite at the Two Days of Thunder over years, with the spectacular on-track action matched off the track, with teams and drivers happy to show off their classic American muscle to punters with open access to the pit paddock.
Toowoomba racer Brett Curran (Ford Mustang) won three out of the four races on offer to claim outright honours at round two at Queensland Raceway back in April, with Anthony Tenkate (Ford Mustang) scoring the other win, his debut race win in the Trans-Am Series. John English (Pontiac Firebird) and Chris La Rosa (Ford Mustang) also featured in the top three throughout the weekend.
In his series debut, La Rosa took out the Sportsman Series at round two ahead of Alwyn Bishop (Ford Mustang), three race wins to one respectively. They’ll be joined on the grid by Harry Charalambous (Ford Mustang) and reigning Sportsman Series champion Tony Rutherford (Ford Mustang). The Sportsman Series is another sub-class within Australian Trans-Am classified for ‘drivers of over 5-Litre vehicles doing it as much for fun as they are success.’
Ron Prefontaine (Ford Mustang) took 5 Litre honours last time out, although he’s unable to attend this weekend, leaving son John Prefontaine to make his Trans-Am debut. Prefontaine will be joined by Mark Bowtell (Pontiac Firebird), Len Balme (Mercury Cougar) and Tricia Chant (Ford Mustang) in the highly-competitive Five Litre Classics division. The Five Litre Classics is a popular sub-class within Australian Trans-Am for cars not exceeding a Five-Litre engine capacity.
The three sub-classes within the Australian Trans-Am Series is classified by the outer tips of the Performance Wheels windscreen banner: Red for Trophy, Yellow for Sportsman and Blue for 5-Litre.
The Trans-Ams are set for four exciting sprint races at the paperclip across the weekend at the popular Two Days of Thunder.
