Coming from the Touring Car Masters Series, Cameron Mason, along with his father and Team Manager Steve will join the Australian Trans-Am Series in a 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback in the Mulch Smart 5 Litre Class.

With the support of F3 Motor Auctions and Hercules Competition Engines, their Shelby Mustang will under go a few changes to reconfigure to Australian Trans-Am specification.

“The tyres will be the biggest difference for us. On the rag tyre we'll be sliding around a bit more, how the cars were supposed to be driven. We'll run a slightly softer spring and a couple of other adjustments to get the car to handle,” explained Mason.

“It will be interesting to see how the car performs on a rag tyre having had so much development on a slick. We might be very fast or we might be very slow so we’ll have to wait and see."

The Masons featured in the pits at Lakeside during Round 1 to check out the racing and see what the class was all about.

“From what we could gather it's an excellent series and a great group of guys to be around and race against. There’s a lot of gentleman there and people with great respect on and off the track so I think it will be a fantastic series to run in, i'm very excited.”

The Novocastrians debut at the second round of the series with the aim to race in Trans-Am for the rest of the year.

"We'll try and store the car up in Queensland for the remainder of the season.”

Mason, used to being one of the younger drivers on the grid, sees this as an opportunity to learn from the best in the business.

“I did pick up a lot from TCM racing with the likes of Jim Richards, John Bowe, Glenn Seton and a lot of the greats there, so racing with Charlie O'Brien and those sort of guys will be fantastic.”

Cameron and Steve Mason would like to thank F3 Motor Auctions and Hercules Competition Engines for their support.

“We couldn't do what we're doing without them. The biggest thing for us is the financial support and everything that they give us is fantastic. We're very excited to get out there and give it a go!"
